Chess is like any other game in the fact that you must have a good strategy to have success and win. Chess however is one of the most tactical games in the world and millions of people everywhere have tried their hand at different winning (and losing) strategies. If you plan on playing chess you are going to have to come up with some brilliant strategies which can be easier said than done. Even the most advanced players in chess are continually changing their strategies to improve their overall game. Many players that are veterans to the game have come to understand how a chess opening affect your overall game. There are many opening strategies that can put you ahead of your opponent if done correctly; giving you the advantage. Though there are many opening strategies for chess players, if they are not executed properly they can place you at a disadvantage for the rest of the game.
One opening chess strategy that affects your overall game and sometimes who controls the rest of the game is having control of the center. This particular strategy is well known to all chess players because it is known that whichever player takes control of the center board earliest will most likely take control of the rest of the game. This does not always hold true as many things can happen in a chess game. But for the most part taking control of the center of the board will allow for more flexibility in your pieces and open up your side of the board for more movement. Taking control of the center board also has its affects on the overall game because it will affect every move your opponent makes. Since most of the pieces have to move through (or at least pass by) the center of the board you will have a better chance to attacking more enemy pieces and protecting your own from being attacked.
Developing your chess pieces during the opening of the chess game can also affect the rest of your game. Not only is it important to develop your pieces with the right moves, it’s important to develop them quickly and to effective squares on the board. This also has a lot to do with taking control of the center of the board because as you develop your pieces quickly you try and move pieces to the center. Losing an effective move can cost you time, space on the board, mobility, and quite possibly the chess game. If you can develop your pieces quickly and effectively you can often times take control of the game which is certainly to your advantage. If you have the white chess pieces you will be making the first move and therefore should come up with a defensive and aggressive strategy against your opponent. Getting the knights and bishops out first and then your rooks so that your king is protected can interfere with your opponent’s pieces also. How you develop your pieces can have an affect on the overall game and can make the difference between winning and losing, so take the time and make sure you place your pieces in effective squares.
Another strategy that can affect your overall game is how you structure you pawns in the opening game. Although these pieces are the least in value and usually sacrificed for more important pieces, they can play a vital role in how the rest of the game is played. Unlike the other pieces that can make as many moves as possible, the pawns are restricted somewhat to about five or six moves. That’s why it’s so important to get your pawns into the best and most effective squares as soon as possible. Pawns can offer great protection for your other important pieces and can help you survive long enough to win (or lose) the game.
Chess opening strategies will always affect your overall game as they either leave you vulnerable to your opponent or give you the advantage for the rest of the game.
