One of the best parts about a game of chess is coming up with a great strategy to halt your opponent in trying to capture your king. Every strategy of course has a counter and the best defense against your opponent is knowing their strategies. Different opponents will have different strategies so it is to your advantage to know your opponent. Here are a few different chess strategies for beginners to try out.
1. Four Move Checkmate- Before you can improve your chess game you need to know about the four move checkmate strategy and how to predict when it is coming. The first characteristic of the four move checkmate strategy is the position of the queen and bishop. In this particular strategy those two pieces specifically are moved early on in the game. Be on the watch when the queen attacks the king’s bishop pawn. In order to defend yourself against this strategy there are a couple things you can do:
Move your knight in front of kin’s bishop pawn. This will open up your knight for other possible moves and give you the advantage. Your knight will also be able to control the center board and protect any important chess pieces you have there.
Move your king’s bishop pawn forward on spot. This will eliminate any chance that your opponent’s queen will take your king’s surrounding area. This move however blocks your queen’s range of motion.
2. The Pin and Fork Strategy- The pin and fork strategy is really two strategies with the same idea. The idea behind this strategy is that by on quick move you can attack two unguarded pieces instead of just one. You can imagine how your opponent will react to such a strategy when they realize that they have to lose at least one of their pieces. If however you are on the receiving end of this clever strategy there are some things you can do to defend yourself.
Fall back and reinforce- You can use one of your game pieces to retreat and the other will stay to reinforce and protect your important pieces.
Take your opponent’s piece hostage- This technique moves the attention to a different part of the chess board. This acts as a small distraction to your opponent and allows you some time to rethink your strategy.
3. One more great strategy to consider that makes any game worth playing is a good opening move. The first move you make is always one of the most important moves you will make. A good opening move is by moving your pawn in front of the king. Many beginner and advanced players will use this as part of their strategy. By moving the king’s pawn forward it frees up the queen and the bishop to do move where they need to.
These are just a few beginning chess strategies for quick check mate. Hopefully these strategies will help you on your way to victory.
